10th Anniversary Celebration and Criminal Justice Reform Conference held on November 28–29, 2025
PRALARG International successfully concluded its 10th Anniversary Celebration and Criminal Justice Reform Conference held on November 28–29, 2025, in Ibadan, Oyo State, Nigeria.
The two-day conference brought together stakeholders from the judiciary, police, correctional institutions, paramilitary agencies, traditional and religious institutions, civil society organizations, human rights advocates, volunteers, paralegals, community leaders, and members of the public to discuss pressing issues affecting Nigeria’s criminal justice system.
One of the major highlights of the conference was a keynote presentation delivered by the Chief Executive Officer of PRALARG International, Comrade Pralagian Olayemi Akinwunmi, titled:
“Why 680 out of 1000 Convicts Return to Prison.”
During his address, Comrade Akinwunmi emphasised the urgent need for structured rehabilitation, reintegration, and aftercare systems within Nigeria’s correctional framework. He noted that many discharged inmates face extreme hardship after release, including homelessness, unemployment, stigmatisation, and lack of social support, which contributes significantly to recidivism.
He advocated for comprehensive reintegration programs involving:
• Vocational and empowerment support for released inmates
• Proper inmate classification and segregation within correctional facilities
• Post-release mentorship and aftercare systems
• Stronger collaboration between government institutions and civil society organizations
• Sustainable public-private partnerships for rehabilitation initiatives
The conference also featured:
• Expert workshops and panel lectures
• Stakeholder engagement sessions
• Induction of new PRALARG members
• Certificate presentation to paralegal training graduates
• Awards presentation to outstanding contributors and advocates
• Official launch of the PRALARG International Paralegal Training Manual
Speaking during the event, the Oyo State Commissioner of Police, represented by ACP Olushola Oyewole, congratulated PRALARG International on its 10th anniversary and called for stronger collaboration between law enforcement agencies and human rights organizations.
The event reinforced PRALARG International’s commitment to promoting rule of law, rehabilitation, restorative justice, human dignity, and sustainable reintegration for inmates and ex-offenders.
Guests at the conference included traditional rulers, religious leaders, local and international human rights organizations, legal practitioners, security stakeholders, correctional officers, non-profit organizations, volunteers, and members of the public.
PRALARG International remains committed to advancing criminal justice reform, human rights advocacy, legal empowerment, and rehabilitation initiatives under its guiding principle:
“Step in the Right Direction.”
